Integrative Pain Management in My Backyard
I have been been reading a lot about integrative pain management and healing pain due to my own issues as well as wanting to improve the care I provide for my clients. I’ve been integrating mindfulness and nutrition in addition to standard cognitive behavioral therapy on a regular basis. This type of treatment was not widely found outside of a complementary and alternative wellness center...or so I thought.
I had the privilege of visiting Sinai Life Bridge hospital's pain management program at the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Brain & Spine Center (It's a big name, I know). Their comprehensive pain management program is comprised of health psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, a case manager, a functional nutrition specialist, a physiatrist, and more. They take a truly holistic approach (not just on paper or in theory) to treating pain and treat the individual not just their presenting pain. They recognize that chronic pain is multi-factorial, meaning that it includes the mind, our stress response, our thoughts, our beliefs, and how we care for our body on so many levels. They offer groups, individual therapy, as well as a free educational group. If you or someone you know is suffering with chronic pain in the DC Baltimore metro area, I highly recommend checking out the top notch services for chronic pain at Sinai Life Bridge Hospital.
